Jailbreak iPhone 4.2.1 iOS 3G/3GS/4, iPod Touch 2G/3G/4G and iPad with redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 4


iPhone Dev Team has updated its software to jailbreak, RedSn0w, for Windows and Mac. Good news, the app is able to Jailbreak iOS  4.2.1, but according to the jailbreak your device will be of type Tethered or Untethered. Before long others will jailbreak software updated and all appliances will jailbreak untethered. For imaptients, here are the installation steps and the procedure for restarting mode Tethered with RedSn0w.



Download and Requirements:

  • Download iOS 4.2.1 for your device by following this link here
  • Having installed iTunes 1.10
  • Redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 4 for Windows or Mac:

Type jailbreak your device by : (= tethered you need your computer whenever you iDevice turns back)
  • 3G iPhone (untethered)
  • iPhone 3G former iBoot (untethered)
  • iPhone 3G new iBoot (tethered)
  • iPhone 4 (tethered)
  • iPod Touch 2G model MB (untethered)
  • iPod Touch 2G model MC (tethered)
  • iPod 3G (tethered)
  • iPod 4G (tethered)
  • iPad (tethered)

 Install RedSn0w:

1. Connect iPhone to your computer via the USB cable.
2. Start redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 4. Click on Browse and select iOS 4.2.1 on your desktop, then click Next.

3. Select " Install Cydia "and click" Next".
4. An automated process will start. it will download and patch the kernel.
5. Put your device into DFU mode in order to perform the jailbreak. (DFU mode : press the HOME button and the POWER for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button only and keep pressing the HOME button until iTunes recognizes a new device in recovery mode.)
6. At the end of the process, if your device can be unlocked by the method Tethered, redsn0w alert you by telling you saying that if the system is restarted or if the battery runs down, you need to do a manipulation to use your device jailbroken .

Restart iDevices Tethered mode:

If your iDevice is jailbroken so Tethered (see the list at the beginning of the tutorial), here is the manipulation to be done whenever it is turned back on.
1. Start RedSn0w and enter the firmware for your device.
2. Check the box: "Just boot tethered right now"
3. Put your device into DFU mode by following the instructions of the software.
