Google paid $12.5 billion for Motorola

The Web giant Google announced in a statement the acquisition of the mobile phone manufacturer Motorola Mobility for $ 12.5 billion. The stated purpose of this transaction is in cash only give new impetus to its Mobile operating system Android. "  The acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated partner of Android, will allow Google to boost the ecosystem of Android and will increase competition in mobile computing  , "welcomed the U.S. group.

With this purchase, so Google takes a big name in the industry, but above a base of 17,000 patents , enabling it to become the second largest patent holder in the world, behind Microsoft. This patent portfolio should give a boost to face different attacks from competitors.
The transaction has received unanimous support from the boards of both groups and its promoters hope to finalize in late 2011 or early 2012.
Google has reassured its partners by claiming that the Android system would remain open to all phone makers.
