Redsn0w 0.9.8b1: Jailbreak tethered for iOS 5 available

MuscleNerd announced at the time the provision for all of the jailbreak tethered iOS 5.0b1. This news is there as a guide: you should not proceed to jailbreak this version if you're not a developer. And for good reason: MobileSubstrate is not yet compatible (and thus, almost all the tweaks are available on Cydia not compatible), and some basic applications will begin Bugu. The Dev Team says in his note that this jailbreak is only useful to developers Cydia tweaks, so they can make their apps compatible.

If you still want to proceed with the jailbreak, you should know:

  • The new version of redsn0w will not activate your iDevice: the UDID your device must be connected to a developer account.
  • It is compatible with 3G and 4G iPod Touch, iPhone 3G, iPhone 4 GSM and CDMA, and iPad 1. The iPad 2 is therefore not always relevant.
  • The jailbreak will be tethered type: it uses the exploit of bootrom Geohot, Limera1n. It will then go through redsn0w to restart your machine.
  • Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 is available on Mac.
